Christmas is coming to the centre of Newcastle in a big way for 2018 as a huge Christmas Village will descend on Times Square.

In the big first for that area of town, the village will feature a huge fully dressed Bavarian beer hall - supplying a wide variety of drinks including wheat beers served in steins, courtesy of Erdinger.

The beer hall will also be home to music and live entertainment from German Oompah bands.

Traditional German street food huts will surround the courtyard overlooking a stunning Christmas tree. Tasty delights on offer will include Christmas dinner wraps, hog roast, bratwurst sausages, waffles and even Christmas Parmos courtesy of Parm-o-rama.

A log cabin heated by an internal log burner, will be the perfect place for cosy drinks and will also be home to lve music and DJs on the evenings and across the weekend.

There will also be fire pits on the sheltered outdoor terrace area if you fancy a few al fresco tipples.

The Christmas Village will feature a weekend Christmas craft market, where you can handpick a gift for a loved one, seasonal decorations, sweet treats or even bring home your very own Christmas tree.

The Christmas Village will sit alongside Life Science Centre's outdoor ice rink, which will be open into the early evening for Christmas Village visitors to enjoy.

The fun doesn’t stop there! A Christmas Village wouldn’t be complete without a Santa’s Grotto (available 1pm-5pm at weekends from November 17 - December 23). More information about the ice rink and Santa's grotto is available on Life's website: life.org.uk .

Plus the cherry on top is the full size carousel which will light up the square and guide the way into the Christmas Village.

Mike Hesketh the organiser of the event and the man responsible for massive Times Square events Cheesetoon and Paddy Fest this year, told Chronicle Live: "After visiting Winter Wonderland in London four years ago and seeing people of all ages coming together, having so much fun at this special time of year, injected a passion and drive to create a unique space in my home city of Newcastle for everyone to enjoy during the winter season.

“The Times Square site is the perfect size and location to make this happen. Being next to Central Station and just a stone throw away from the main retail shops, means the village is accessible to all.

“We have teamed up with one of the biggest beer companies in Germany, Erdinger, to create a true Bavarian Christmas style beer hall which is perfect for that Christmas party night or afternoon tipple with friends, certainly making us unique and standing us out from the crowd.”
