We've got a budding singing superstar on our patch here in Newcastle after young Vinny Finlinson has become an overnight social media sensation.

And it's all down to the five-year-old's amazing performance in town on Saturday which saw him belt out George Ezra's Shotgun and a host of other songs after asking a busker in Old Eldon Square if he could have a go.

The man kindly stepped outside to give the little Walker lad the spotlight and Vinny seized the opportunity in style, starting on the ground and then making a nearby bench his stage as he showcased his popstar potential to the max.

And, while attracting plenty of attention from weekend shoppers who stopped to witness his singing talents and VERY enthusiastic performance in the flesh, Vinny has gained a much larger audience online, with the video of him singing Shotgun being viewed over 16,000 times at the time of writing.

In the video of Vinny's amazing performance, which you can watch above, you can also hear him modestly ask, "why are they giving me money?"

Loads of people gave Vinny coins, but without a second thought, he gave them all to the busker who let him sing and even accompanied him on guitar.

And his mam Colleen Courtney is understandably very proud of her little boy.

"I can't believe it," she told Chronicle Live.

"He just went up to the guy and asked if he could have a turn and loads of people started watching and filming him.

"He was singing for ages but our phone died so we only got him doing Shotgun - that's definitely his favourite song!

"He didn't even think about taking any of the money, He made loads but put it straight into the guy's case.

"I'm really proud of him."

While he's now famous on the internet, Vinny's singing talent is already well known to his classmates as Colleen joked "At his nursery graduation this year he took over the stage!"
