Columbus-based COhatch will open its first co-working space in the former Arhaus furniture store in the Deerfield Towne Center.

DEERFIELD TWP. – The former Arhaus furniture store in the Deerfield Towne Center will soon become home to greater Cincinnati’s first COhatch communal working space.

It would be one of nearly two dozen facilities in greater Cincinnati and northern Kentucky operated by 19 organizations that offer memberships for individuals, startups, or small businesses that need office space, meeting rooms, and other business amenities, according to Cincy Inno.

“We are very excited to welcome COhatch to Deerfield Towne Center,’’ said Billy Andrews, the center’s general manager.

“This is truly a unique concept and one we are looking forward to introducing to our community…”

Using data from Small Business Labs, Cincy Inno reports there will be 3.1 million global co-working members this year, up from 2.3 million in 2018. It is predicted that number will jump to 3.8 million next year. They will be using 26,078 spaces next year.

The goal, says COhatch founder Matt Davis, is to create a shared space for work, social and family that creates community and can be used for work and play.

“Most co-working space focuses on getting the most out of work,’’ said Matt Davis, who founded COhatch three years ago and serves as its chief executive officer.

“Our goal is to help people live a well-rounded life, to create a community of people. There’s more to life than work, work, work.”

Set to open next spring, the 13,000 square foot former store will be converted to 37 private office suites for companies of five or fewer, six meeting rooms, desks, a 40-person theater, game room, patio, event space, and office amenities including coffee, wi-fi, fax/mail service, and receptionist.

“We want our members to use it for business, but also as an extension of (their) house,’’ Davis said.

Members of COhatch can use any facility, in any of its locations in Columbus, Dayton, and future Indianapolis sites – the first set to open next year.

Under COhatch’s plan for Deerfield Township, its spaces on weekends and nights could be used by non-profit organizations. Churches may rent space on Sundays. Members could also schedule space for personal events such as children’s birthday parties.

“Our goal is to help people live a well-rounded life,’’ Davis said. “Every location we build is different – customized to the town. We want to give people access to tons of real estate. We take old, idle buildings and create a community of people.”

The Deerfield Township COhatch is planned to open spring of 2020. Davis said he anticipates three more locations in the region to open within two years of the Deerfield Township opening. One of those would be somewhere downtown.

At the Deerfield Township site, 10 non-profit organizations will be awarded free memberships. COhatch also provides annual scholarship packages for leadership training classess.

Offices, suites and memberships will go on sale Nov. 1. Office space and suites will rent for between $500 and $1,200 per month; individual memberships for occasional use are $59 per month.
