Update, 5:45 p.m.: Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Tuesday there were 387 new cases of the novel coronavirus reported over a three-day period.

There were also three new deaths, bringing the statewide total to 394. There were 141 new cases reported on May 24, 122 on May 25 and 117 on May 26.

Other totals released by the governor Tuesday afternoon:

  • Total cases: 8,951
  • Total tests: 193,576
  • Total hospitalized: 2,136
  • Currently hospitalized: 489
  • Currently in an Intensive Care Unit: 78
  • Total recovered: 3,115

In Northern Kentucky, there were 10 new cases reported by the governor in Kenton County, five new cases in Boone County, three in Grant County and two in Campbell County.

Numbers from local health departments often differ from the governor's totals due to a lag in reporting.

Asked if he would be moving out of the governor's mansion after a weekend protest that included a hanging in effigy near the state capitol, Beshear said, "I'm not going to let folks who would resort to this to change how we are going about this."

Update, 5:22 p.m.: Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear called the protest that occurred Sunday that resulted in a hanging in effigy at the state capitol actions 'aimed at creating fear and terror.'

Beshear condemned elected officials that stood with radical groups but only condemned their actions after the Sunday protest. "You cannot fan the flames then condemn the fire," he said.

The governor spoke about his concerns when he moved his family into the Governor's mansion.

"One thing I never thought about and never questioned was their personal safety," Beshear said. "...I did not consider that they might be bullied and heckled by grown adults. And then Sunday happened."

"I will not back down. Not to them. Not to anyone else."
