FAIRFIELD - Kentucky Wildcats football coach Mike Stoops has actively recruited Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky since his arrival.

Last weekend, he may have snared his latest blue-chipper for the Big Blue when Fairfield running back JuTahn McClain announced his commitment via Twitter.

Among familiar faces McClain will eventually see in Lexington are Xavier Peters, who prepped at Lakota West and recently transferred to Kentucky from Florida State and Chris Oats of Winton Woods. Prior to attending Fairfield, McClain was a teammate with Oats with the Warriors.

McClain listed his top choices June 4, then wentSoutheastern Conference and UK just four days later.  The Wildcats beat out Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska and Purdue.

"It's a competitive league and it means I'm going to go against a lot of good players," McClain said. "I'm just going to better myself and show what I've got on the field."

Associate head coach Vince Marrow was his primary recruiter and assistant head coach/running backs coach Eddie Gran will handle McClain directly at Kentucky. Gran, Darin Hinshaw and Steve Clinkscale are current UK staffers that formerly served on Tommy Tuberville's staff at Cincinnati.

Fairfield coach Jason Krause has sent many players to college at all levels, but his Division I list includes Jackson Carman of the defending national champion Clemson Tigers, Malik Vann at the University of Cincinnati, Erick All of Michigan and Josiah Scott of Michigan State. McClain now gives him SEC representation.

"He's a high-character kid that works tirelessly making himself better and the guys around him better," Krause said. "He's committed to being the best he can be. They've done in a good job in Ohio and they (UK) have really done a good job getting that program to the next level."

With more than 2,400 rushing yards in two seasons with Fairfield in the Greater Miami Conference, McClain would like to get that many in his final prep season. He also is a solid pass-catcher with 24 receptions as a junior and feels Big Blue Nation will take a liking to his talents.

"Expect something you ain't never seen before," McClain said. "A lot of people compare me to Boom Williams when he went there, but this is about to be something new."

Boom Williams left Kentucky early and at one time was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals. Williams ran for 1,170 yards for the Wildcats in 2016 before turning pro. McClain is a few inches taller and a tad lighter (around 180 pounds) and has elusive skills that UK will likely embrace.

Perhaps McClain's most impressive performance came in a loss to Ohio Division I runner-up Colerain when he ran for 275 yards and three scores last October. Even more impressive is another stat Krause brings up in practice. Out of all of McClain's running attempts, he fumbled just once.

"He takes a lot of pride in taking care of the football and that makes us a better team," Krause said. "That kind of ball security, I can't recall that in my career,"

McClain feels he can make the Wildcat offense a lot quicker. Just last season, Kentucky was 10-3 under Mark Stoops with a Citrus Bowl victory over Penn State.

"Just know I'm bringing it!" McClain said
