Jefferson County authorities are continuing their investigation into a Tuesday afternoon shooting which left two people dead.
Sheriff Jeff Coffey said his officers responded to a residence on Oak Grove Road outside of Dandridge about 1:30 p.m. following a reported domestic situation.
“When the first officer arrived on the scene, a child came running from the front door of the residence,” the sheriff said.
The officer grabbed the child and took him to safety until other responding deputies arrived. A perimeter was set up around the residence, and numerous unsuccessful attempts were made to make contact with the occupants of the home.
The Special Response Team from the Jefferson City Police Department responded to the scene and, at 4:40 p.m., made entry to the home “where they found two deceased persons inside.”
The sheriff declined to say if the victims are male or female, their ages or relationships, saying the investigation is in the preliminary stages.
“The only thing I can say is that there is no threat to the surrounding community,” Coffey said.
Asked if the situation appears to be a murder/suicide, the sheriff said, “I can’t release that information at this time.”
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is participating in the investigation.
Coffey also called on residents to contact 911 if they hear or see a situation that they believe could become physical.
