Topeka police were investigating an attempted robbery early Monday at a restaurant on the city's southeast side.

The incident was reported at 12:02 a.m. at the Pizza Hut at 2007 S.E. 29th.

Topeka police Lt. John Trimble said employees of the restaurant were leaving the business when a man approached them as they were getting in their cars.

The man brandished a handgun and asked them for their money, Trimble said.

The victims had no money to give and the assailant left the area on foot, Trimble said.

The assailant was described as a white or light-skinned black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black-and-white mask.

No injuries were reported.
