A Topeka man was behind bars Wednesday in the Jackson County Jail in Holton following his arrest after authorities said he fled from law enforcement officers on a motorcycle.

The arrested man was identified as Austin L. Terry, 35.

According to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, Terry was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Topeka following a chase that began in Jackson County.

Morse said that about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Jackson County sheriff's deputy tried to stop a red 2007 Yamaha motorcycle that was allegedly driving erratically and speeding near 102nd Road and US-75 highway in southern Jackson County.

Rather than pulling over, the motorcyclist continued south into Shawnee County and led law enforcement on a pursuit through North Topeka, Morse said.

Law enforcement officers were able to stop the pursuit in the 1700 block of N.W. Taylor, where Morse said the rider hid the motorcycle and left on foot.

The man, later identified as Terry, was arrested by Jackson County deputies. Terry was taken to the Jackson County Jail, where he was booked in connection with fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended, no proof of insurance and no registration.

Ground and air units with the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in Terry's apprehension. The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office and Topeka Police Department also assisted.

Terry's bond was pending Wednesday morning.
