Police seek 22-year-old in fatal shooting

Topeka police are attempting to locate Lavonte D. Johnson, 22, in connection with a fatal shooting near S.E. 37th and Adams.

The shooting, which occurred about 3:40 p.m. Thursday, killed Joaquin Aj Mckinney, 16, of Topeka.

Zachary Jacob McFall, 16, turned himself in to law enforcement on Saturday after police said they were looking for him. McFall was arrested in connection with first-degree murder.

On Sunday, a second 16-year-old was arrested in the 3300 block of S.E. Irvingham in connection with first-degree murder.

Both arrested teens were taken to the Juvenile Department of Corrections.

Officers responded to the area of S.E. Fremont and Irvingham for gunshots in the area, Topeka police said Thursday. Officers en route to the gunshots call then responded to S.E. 37th and Adams, where citizens reported a possible shooting.

Police located a white car at S.E. 37th and Pennsylvania with McKinney inside suffering from life-threatening injuries. He later died at a local hospital.

Anyone who knows Johnson's location should not try to apprehend him but rather call 911 to report his location or call Shawnee County Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007 to report his location anonymously.
