Secure campus lifted at Highland Park
A secure-campus mode was lifted Friday morning at Highland Park High School, a short time after the measure had been implemented, authorities said.
The secure-campus mode was put into place around 11 a.m. Friday as a result of Topeka Police Department activity in the area of the school, 2424 S.E. California Ave., authorities said.
Secure campus is put in place when a potential threat originates off a school campus, authorities said. Secure campus then is put in place if the threat could affect a school. Officers are placed around the perimeter of the school campus in such cases. Classes continue, but students aren't allowed to go outside the school's buildings in secure campus settings.
