A man was fatally shot early Saturday morning in North Topeka, police said.

They indicated they were investigating the death as a homicide.

Topeka police Lt. Jennifer Cross identified the man who was killed as Teddy Kleiner, 45, of Topeka. No arrests had been made.

Cross said officers were called shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday to the scene in the 500 block of N.E. Paramore, where they found a man suffering form multiple gunshot wounds. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he died, Cross said.

Nine little yellow cones of the type police use to mark evidence could be seen standing Saturday morning in the street at the shooting scene, which is six blocks north of the north base of the Kansas Avenue Bridge and a little more than four blocks east of N. Kansas Avenue.

Officers put up yellow crime scene tape to the east and the west of the shooting scene.

The investigation into the homicide was ongoing, Cross said.

She asked anyone with information about it to call the police investigations bureau at 785-368-9400 or Shawnee County Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007. Tips can also be made anonymously online at www.p3tips.com/128.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Kleiner served prison time for felony drug crimes and fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, committed in 2003, 2009 and 2010. He was released on parole in 2017, then discharged from parole supervision last January, those records say.
