Police investigate early-morning shooting
Topeka police were investigating a shooting that was reported early Wednesday on the city's south side.
Topeka police spokeswoman Gretchen Koenen said officers received a call around 4:30 a.m. regarding a man who had arrived at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers spoke with the victim at the hospital, Koenen said. The victim told police he was sitting inside his parked vehicle in the 3800 block of S.W. Topeka Boulevard when an unknown person approached his vehicle and demanded money.
The man said he wouldn’t give the assailant any money, Koenen said. The assailant then reportedly shot the victim and ran off.
Officers were continuing to develop suspect information on Wednesday morning. Anyone with information is requested to call Shawnee County Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007.
