One taken to hospital after 3-vehicle crash near S.W. 1st and Topeka Boulevard

One person was taken to a local hospital late Wednesday morning after she was injured in a three-vehicle crash on the northwest edge of downtown Topeka, authorities said.

The collision was reported around 11:25 a.m. Wednesday just south of S.W. 1st and Topeka Boulevard.

Topeka police said at the scene that a preliminary investigation indicated a black, four-door Honda Accord was southbound on Topeka Boulevard when it entered the northbound lanes, resulting in a collision with a maroon, four-door Ford Taurus and a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

Both the Ford and the Chevrolet pickup truck had been traveling north at the time of the crash.

The Honda came to rest against a concrete barrier facing south in the right northbound lane in an area beneath the Polk-Quincy Viaduct, which carries traffic on Interstate 70.

The Ford and the Chevrolet pickup truck, meanwhile, came to rest facing southwest in the northbound lanes. The Ford and Chevrolet pickup truck ended up about 30 feet north of the Honda.

Police said the Ford's female driver was transported by American Medical Response ambulance to a Topeka hospital. Her injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening.

The drivers of the Honda and the Chevrolet pickup truck, both of whom were men, were reported uninjured.

Northbound traffic was allowed to proceed past the crash scene in the center turn lane as crews worked to clear the scene.

Southbound traffic on Topeka Boulevard was allowed to proceed as usual.

The crash scene was just south of the south end of the Topeka Boulevard Bridge.
