Two taken to hospital following collision near Lake Shawnee

Two people were taken to a local hospital Monday morning following a two-vehicle crash near Lake Shawnee, authorities said.

The collision was reported around 8:40 a.m. at S.E. 29th and West Edge Road.

According to Shawnee County sheriff's officials, the crash occurred when a blue 2012 Hyundai Elantra driven west on S.E. 29th by Cayden M. Zoeller, 17, of Topeka, rear-ended a gold 2003 Honda Accord driven by Nokomis D. Jackson, 43, of Topeka, which was stopped at a red light at S.E. 29th and West Edge Road.

Both drivers were transported to a local hospital with injuries that weren't considered be life-threatening.

The Shawnee Heights fire department and the Shawnee County Park Police also responded to the incident.

The crash scene was just north of Lake Shawnee.
