Topeka police make arrest in shooting
Topeka police said they arrested a man early Friday in connection with a shooting committed late Thursday that resulted in the victim’s suffering injuries that were considered potentially life-threatening.
Shawnee County Jail records identified the man in custody as Clayton John Edward Allen, 21, of Topeka.
Topeka police Lt. Matt Danielson said officers responded about 11:45 p.m. Thursday to a report of a shooting in the area of S.W. 15th and Campbell Avenue, where a victim suffering from a single gunshot wound was taken by ambulance to a Topeka hospital with injuries that were considered potentially life-threatening.
Campbell is one block east of S.W. Oakley Avenue.
The shooting victim’s name, age and gender weren’t being released Friday.
Several people were taken to police headquarters for questioning, Danielson said. Through the course of the investigation, Allen was identified as a suspect, he said.
Jail records indicated Allen was being held in lieu of a $15,000 bond Friday in connection with one count each of aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, interference with a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
