CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A Wyoming inmate has died of an apparent suicide at a prison in Mississippi.

Wyoming Department of Corrections officials said Monday that 38-year-old Charles Edward Jones died Saturday at Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Mississippi.

Prison officials say they are investigating and an autopsy has been ordered.

Jones' death would be the second suicide of a Wyoming inmate in less than a month following one at the state medium-security prison in Torrington on Jan. 16.

Jones was among some 140 Wyoming inmates being housed out of state to address insufficient space in Wyoming facilities. He was transferred to Mississippi from the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins last April.

Jones was serving a life sentence for robbing and killing a man at a party in Cheyenne in 2009.
