2 Mississippi State University students killed, one injured in car crash

Two Mississippi State University students are dead and a third was seriously injured in a single-car crash Sunday in DeSoto County.

DeSoto County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Tish Clark said two males and a female were in the vehicle when it crashed about 5:35 p.m. Sunday.

Michael Taylor, 21, the driver, and Christian Compton, 23, both of Olive Branch were pronounced dead at the scene. Sloan McClatchy, 21, of Red Banks, was airlifted to Regional Medical Center. She was listed in stable condition Monday.

“We were stunned after learning of this tragedy and deeply mourn the loss of these fine members of our MSU family," MSU President Mark E. Keenum said in a statement."Our prayers remain with the families and friends of the three young people involved in this horrific accident. Any time MSU students lose their lives, the entire institution is diminished.”

Clark said the vehicle left Getwell Road near Gray's Creek and struck a tree. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
