Two people died in Jackson Thursday night in two separate incidents, police confirmed. The slayings are Jackson's 13th and 14th homicides of the year

According to Sgt. Roderick Holmes with the Jackson Police Department, officers responded to the 3700 block of Hancock Street for a "possible shooting." When they arrived on scene, they found an unresponsive male lying just off the roadway, Holmes said.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, had been shot multiple times. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers believe the victim was walking down the street when he was approached by an known male wearing a hoodie. Several shots were fired and the suspect ran south on Hancock Street, Holmes said.

The motive is currently unknown and the investigation is ongoing.

Marcell Martin

Later that evening, officers responded to a home on Alexander Street for another shooting.

Inside the residence, they discovered 48-year-old Virgil Martin "suffering from multiple gunshot wounds," Holmes said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe her husband, 41-year-old Marcell Martin, is responsible for her death. Marcell Martin fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan. The investigation is ongoing. As of Friday morning, Martin's whereabouts were unknown.
