An early morning shooting at a nightclub claimed the life of a Jackson man Sunday. After an initial investigation, police believe the shooting was justified.

According to Sgt. Roderick Holmes with the Jackson Police Department, two men got into a "dispute" around 3 a.m. Sunday morning outside a nightclub on Handy Avenue.

Witnesses told police that, during the argument, one of the two men, Anthony McGee, 29, pulled a handgun.

"Shortly thereafter, multiple shots were fire," Holmes said in an emailed press release.

McGee died at the scene. He had been shot "at least" once, Holmes said.

Two different firearms were recovered at the scene. The second man was not arrested, Holmes said, because "preliminary results of the investigation suggest the incident was justifiable." His name was not released.

The investigation is ongoing.
