MEDINA, Ohio -- Elected officials and members of the city’s business community celebrated the opening of Molly’s Fashion Boutique and the relocation of Medina Funtastic Toyz during a ribbon-cutting event on Friday (July 12).

Owners Ed and Dinah Wright were presented with several proclamations from elected officials, including the Ohio Senate, Ohio House of Representatives, U.S. Rep. Anthony Gonzalez’s office and the Ohio Secretary of State’s office.

During the ribbon cutting, Ed Wright said he is grateful for the community’s support for local businesses like theirs.

“We’ve enjoyed so much all the things we have been able to do in Medina,” he said.

Wright said these two businesses strive to offer high-quality, unique items that cannot be found at local big box stores or online.

Wright said the women’s clothing boutique was previously known as Molly’s Closet and was in the back of the building, which is where Medina Funtastic Toyz is now located. It previously was office space for the Medina City Schools Board of Education.

The decision to move the boutique to the front of the building was made after some customers reported they had difficulty with the stairs; in contrast, Wright said young children seem to like going up and down the stairs while checking out the toys.

The complex on West Washington Street just west of Medina’s square also includes the Wrights’ Miss Molly’s Tea Room, which has been in business for 21 years, and an attached gift shop. Wright said all four businesses employ as many as 40 throughout the year.

After the festivities at Miss Molly’s, there was also a ribbon cutting for the recently opened Candy Apple & Co located at 23 Public Square.

Owner Debbie Stevens said she offers around 70 different apple toppings, ranging from chocolate-dipped to caramel-dipped offerings. The apples can be individually wrapped for party favors.

Stevens opened the business 2½ years ago and at first rented out kitchen space from Cool Beans before getting her own space.
