AKRON, Ohio – Akron police are searching for one of two men who shot and wounded people Tuesday evening during a fistfight in East Akron.
Police arrested one of the shooters – 22-year-old Kaari Jones, of Akron – after he was admitted to an emergency room with a gunshot wound, according to a police report.
Officers responded around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to a call about a shooting at Dahlgren Drive and Becker Lane, near South Arlington Street in East Akron.
A 21-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to his arm, leg and back, and a 23-year-old man was shot in his leg, police said. Paramedics brought both victims to Summa Akron City Hospital for treatment.
Investigators learned that the 23-year-old victim had been in a fistfight with Jones, according to police.
An unidentified friend of Jones pulled a handgun and began shooting, striking the 21-year-old victim.
Jones ran to his vehicle, got a gun and shot the 23-year-old victim, police said. Both shooters ran from the scene.
While officers were at Akron City Hospital, Jones came to the emergency room for a gunshot wound to his leg, police said.
Jones has been charged with felonious assault, second-degree felony, according to Akron Municipal Court records. A judge set his bond on Wednesday at $50,000.
Police do not have a description of the other shooter.
