PERRY, Ohio - When an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday, it could be detected four time zones away at the Lake Erie Bluffs seismic station northeast of Cleveland.
An image provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (shown above) shows the activity recorded by the seismic station just west of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.
The station, operated under a joint agreement between ODNR and the Lake County Metroparks, can easily detect almost any earthquake of 6.0 or above anywhere on the planet, ODNR spokesman Eric Heis explained in an email.
Activity for the last several hours can be viewed at this link.
