AKRON, Ohio -- Freddy’s has made a name for itself across the country for its steakburgers and frozen custard. But, until recently, the fast-casual chain was nowhere to be found in Northeast Ohio.
That changed in late July when the first Freddy’s in the area opened at 863 Arlington Ridge E. in Green.
Freddy’s is a quick-service restaurant with a 1950s vibe. For the uninitiated, its steakburgers and thin-cut fries compare favorably to those served at Steak 'n Shake. Customers of Culver’s would feel right at home ordering from Freddy’s frozen custard offerings.
Franchise owner David Giesen calls it "a better burger restaurant concept.”
“We use premium ingredients and your food is always cooked to order, served hot and fresh within minutes," he said in a press release. "When you walk in, you can expect a warm greeting, and you’ll experience genuine hospitality we call the ‘Freddy’s Way.’”
Steakburgers are the main attraction.
“We start with lean 100 percent ground beef, sprinkle on our famous seasoning, press the patty thin and sear on a flat-top grill until the edges are deliciously crispy,” Giesen said. “We regularly recommend the Original Double, which comes standard with two patties, two slices of cheese, mustard, onion slices and pickle planks.”
Chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, a patty melt and veggie burger round out the entree section of the menu.
But Freddy’s is just as much a dessert destination as it is a lunch or dinner joint.
The restaurant offers five signature sundaes and concretes, including its famous Dirt n’ Worms sundae: vanilla custard with Oreo cookies, Gummi worms, whipped cream and a cherry on top. The Hawaiian Delight -- vanilla custard with pineapple, strawberry, coconut, macadamia nuts, whipped cream and a cherry -- is a personal favorite. Customers can also create their own, choosing from two flavors of custard and 30 toppings.
The new Freddy’s, which has seating for about 80 plus a patio and drive-thru, is open daily starting at 10:30 a.m.
