Man accused of firing shots at women after fight in Akron bar

AKRON, Ohio — A suspect has been arrested after police say shots were fired during a fight at a bar in the North Hill neighborhood.

Kevin L. Cook, 36, of Akron, is being held in the Summit County Jail on a charge of felonious assault, police say.

According to police, the fight occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Friday at the Northside Tavern on the 900 block of North Howard Street.

Police say two women, ages 25 and 28, were involved in an altercation inside the bar and that when they attempted to leave, a male followed them outside and fired several shots at them.

One of the women ran from the bar while the other went to her 2019 Ford Taurus and tried to drive away. The woman jumped from the vehicle and ran after the car was hit by bullets, police say. A large brick also was thrown through the rear window of the car.

The male suspect began chasing the woman. Police say another unknown suspect then went to the Taurus and stole a purse and cell phone.

Cook was arrested late Sunday night at a residence in the Kenmore neighborhood.
