Ohio woman with missing leg crawls to safety from house fire

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman was unable to get to her prosthetic leg after a fire broke out in her home, forcing her to crawl to safety, according to reports.

Marcella Connor, 54, crawled from her home and across the street to a neighbor’s house to get help during the fire, which occurred at about 4 a.m. Saturday, WCMH Channel 4 reports.

“She reached for the door knob and the door burned her fingers, but she opened that door up and she crawled across that street like the soldier that she is because my mom is so strong,” Natoska Moon, Connor’s daughter, tells WCMH.

The smell of smoke woke Connor, who told firefighters she did not hear the home’s fire alarm go off, ABC 6 reports.

Connor’s dog died in the fire and she was taken to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation. 10tv.com reports the home is considered a total loss.

Firefighters say the cause of the fire is under investigation but it’s believed it might be electrical-related.
