COLUMBUS, Ohio -Cuyahoga County now has three confirmed cases of people who have become sick after vaping, according to an Ohio Department of Health Tuesday afternoon update.

Additionally, Medina County has seen its first confirmed illness.

Statewide, 28 cases have been confirmed. Twenty-five of those patients were hospitalized. An additional 30 illnesses are under investigation as to whether they’re tied to vaping.

No one has died in Ohio. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 18 deaths outside of Ohio and over 1,000 confirmed illnesses.

Symptoms of the illness include cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain and even fever, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The CDC has concluded that a chemical exposure and not a lung infection is causing the illnesses.

Evidence is pointing to illegal THC vaping juice as tied to most of the illnesses. However, some patients report they only vaped tobacco products.

Nine of the cases in Ohio were female and 19 were male. The median age of patients in Ohio is 21.
