Ohio State basketball officially introduces Jake Diebler as assistant coach

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State has officially announced the hire of Jake Diebler as the newest member of its men’s basketball coaching staff.

Diebler replaces Mike Schrage, who recently accepted the head coaching job at Elon University.

“We are excited about the addition of Jake Diebler to our staff,” head coach Chris Holtmann said in a press release. "Jake was highly recommended by those he has worked for as well as by many of our former players who are now playing professionally. I appreciated several of them reaching out to recommend him during this process.

"Jake has shown the ability to recruit at a high level, teach and develop players and his work ethic is highly regarded. His Ohio roots and ties also were important in this process. The Diebler name certainly brings back great memories and I know Jake will work extremely hard to create more in the future.”

The former Vanderbilt assistant served as a video coordinator for the Buckeyes from 2013-16 under Thad Matta. He’s also the brother of former Ohio State player Jon Diebler.

Diebler played four years at Valparaiso before joining its coaching staff in 2010. He brings five seasons of coaching experience to Columbus and has proven himself to be a solid recruiter.
