COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State already has its quarterbacks lined up for its 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes in Jack Miller and Kyle McCord, respectively.

But Ryan Day and his staff are already beginning their search for the quarterback to be part of its 2022 class. Following Saturday’s camp, the Buckeyes offered Bergen Catholic (N.J.) sophomore Steve Angeli. He is not yet ranked by 247Sports.com, but got a few reps on the varsity team as a true freshman last season.

Angeli, who is 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, is the third quarterback in the 2022 class that the Buckeyes have offered. The other two are Quinn Ewers from Southlake Carroll in Texas, and Maalik Murphy from Junipero Serra in California.

The Buckeyes also offered multiple prospects in the 2021 class on Saturday. Among them was an in-state product in Cincinnati La Salle safety Jaylen Johnson.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound rising junior is ranked as 247Sports.com’s No. 21 safety, No. 19 player in Ohio and No. 403 player in the nation. OSU and Iowa State are so far the only schools from Power Five conferences to offer him. He also has offers from Akron, Toledo and Western Michigan.

Another junior on the defensive side of the football that got his OSU offer was safety Bryce Steele from Alexandria, Va. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior is not yet ranked by 247Sports.com, but boasts some strong offers including Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and others.

On the offensive side, junior tight end Bennett Pitcher traveled to Columbus all the way from Deerfield, Mass. The 6-foot-9, 260-pound prospect is heading home with an offer from the Buckeyes.

Like Steele, Pitcher is not yet ranked by 247Sports.com. And also like Steele, Pitcher already has an offer from Michigan. Baylor, Boston College, Georgia Tech and Virginia are among the other schools to extend him an offer.

Another offensive player to earn himself an offer on Saturday is receiver Dekel Crowdus, the top-ranked prospect in Kentucky by 247Sports.com.

Crowdus, who is 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, came to the camp already having offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Penn State, Purdue, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and others.

The Buckeyes have two players committed in its 2021 class in McCord and five-star defensive end Jack Sawyer from Pickerington North.
