Binghamton Rumble Ponies bury Akron RubberDucks, 16-3

AKRON, Ohio — Binghamton had no troubles Monday night at Canal Park, racking up 17 hits and rolling to a 16-3 win over the RubberDucks at Canal Park.

Akron (7-10) trailed, 2-0, at the start of the fourth, but Andres Gimenez’s bases-clearing double and Michael Paez’s sacrifice fly made it 6-0 and the Rumble Ponies just piled on from there.

That ended RubberDucks left-hander Sam Hentges’ (0-3, 8.62 ERA) night. He lasted three innings, giving up six runs, four earned, and five hits.

Akron relievers did nothing to slow Binghamton down. The Ponies expanded their lead with five runs in the sixth inning off left-hander Matt Whitehouse & righty Luke Eubank, then added five more in the eighth off Eubank and right-hander Dalbert Siri.

The RubberDucks didn’t score until the eighth inning when they already were down, 16-0.

It was a far different story for Ponies left-handed starter Anthony Kay (1-1, 1.89 ERA), who gave up just one hit over six scoreless innings and struck out 10.
