THE senior side may be struggling, but the future looks bright for Falkirk FC thanks to a quartet of new signings.

Four talented players from clubs across West Dunbartonshire have been snapped up to the club’s pro-youth sides. Former Antonine midfielder Owen Gallagher and wing back James Grant have made the grade as have Scotland BC striker Robbie McDonald and Dumbarton North goalkeeper Kenneth Allan.

As U9s, James and Robbie have made club history, becoming the youngest ever players to join the SPL club’s youth system.

Falkirk youth development manager Alastair MacColl, who runs the popular Soccer AM football festival every year, said: “I’ve worked with James and Robbie since they were six coming to Soccer AM.

“Robbie was actually up at Aberdeen as they wanted to sign him so we are delighted he chose us. James’ dad Kenny played football with me in the Clydebank youth team so it is like father like son. Owen is another talented player I’ve known since he was six. He played with Celtic, but has opted for us.

“And Kenneth has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs too, including St Mirren. He looks like he has a bright future ahead. They are young, but every club is signing players at this age and we feel if we can work with them from an early age it will stand them in good stead for the future.

“Thanks to Toby King and Jim Meechan for their hard work in developing the boys over the years and thanks also to the boys’ parents for their support.”

“It is the start of a long and hopefully fruitful road for the youngsters.” Falkirk FC has an impressive track record of developing young talent, with five players now part of the Scotland U19 squad while the SPL club captain Darren Barr is part of the full international side at just 24.
