As of Monday, April 6, there have been 72,181 reported cases of COVID-19 in New York City—the highest number of any city in the U.S. State officials have put many restrictions in place to try to curb the spread of the virus, including closing down most non-essential businesses and fining people $1,000 for not social distancing. The city also welcomed a Navy hospital ship on March 30, and has set up a makeshift hospitals in Central Park and the Javits Convention Center.
