Megu, The Leela New Delhi, #12 on Top Restaurant Awards 2018 list

Old-world Japan in New Delhi
Megu The Leela New Delhi 12 on Top Restaurant Awards 2018 list

Opened in 2012, this restaurant has, over the years, earned its reputation as one of most authentic Japanese dining experiences anywhere in India. The restaurant's menu is a union of the finest ingredients from as far as Japan, the US, Canada and all over Europe. Megu's décor is an homage to traditional Japanese design. A crystal Buddha as if levitating over a pool of water and a traditional Japanese Bonshō, inspired by the one at the historic Tōdai-ji temple in the Japanese city of Nara, are central to the dining area. The rich oak wood columns and intricately embroidered silk kimono fabric that embellish the walls lend the space warmth. The traditional red and black colour lacquered walls feel like a modernists take on Japanese restaurants of the past. This fidelity to the ways of the past carries to the menu that is populated by time-honoured hits such as the oriental salad, hamachi carpacio, salmon tartare, crispy asparagus and kanzuri shrimp. The tidy selection of sake perfectly complements the dining experience.

Himalayan Raw & Fine Element: Get the finest ingredients from around the world, treat them as gently and respectfully as you can and let them tease and play on your palate - this seems to be the idea at this restaurant. And it is a winning one.
