Update: Initial damage estimates are in excess of $100,000. Two vehicles were also damaged in the fire, one in the garage and one in the driveway. No known cause yet. When occupants of the house smelled smoke, they opened the garage door and immediately shut the door, which greatly helped restrict the fire spreading, before evacuating..

Firefighters battled a blaze at 8306 Stay Sail Drive in west Windsor that broke out about 8:40 a.m. Friday.

It took crews about 30 minutes to knock down the house fire, which started in the garage.

When crews arrived, fire and heavy smoke were pouring out of the garage. Crews used a saw to cut the metal garage door and access the fire. Other firefighters tore soffits down on the sides of the house and shot water into the rafters.

An unidentified adult who talked to the Coloradoan said she was in the house at the time of the fire while her parents were running errands. There were no injuries, according to Windsor Severance Fire Chief Kris Kazian.

According to a Friday news release from Windsor Severance Fire Rescue, the home's occupants smelled smoke, opened the door to the garage and encountered a "significant amount of smoke."

"Their decision to immediately shut the door and (call) 9-1-1 as they were evacuating had a key role in keeping the fire from spreading to the rest of the home," according to the release.

Though the fire stayed primarily in the garage, the entire home suffered smoke damage and initial damage estimates are more than $100,000, according to Windsor Severance Fire Rescue.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and Poudre Fire Authority also responded to the scene, and Eaton Fire provided station coverage.
