Memphis has landed a direct American Airlines flight to Los Angeles during the holidays.

American Airlines will run a nonstop flight between Memphis International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport from Dec. 18 through Jan. 7, 2020. The flight will occur once a day and use a 128-seat airplane.

Delta and Allegiant currently provide nonstop flights to Los Angeles from Memphis, according to Memphis International Airport’s website.

“This new MEM-LAX service is a significant development in our efforts to expand West Coast connectivity, and we are grateful that American has once again responded to passenger demand,” said Pace Cooper, chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, in a statement.

High demand “could lead to ongoing service in the future,” according to a news release from the Memphis airport. Cooper said he hopes passengers will “make their case for year-round service.”

The flight will also open the door for one-stop travel to 11 other West Coast destinations and one-stop international travel to cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo and Sydney, said the release.
