Memphis weather: More heavy rains, possible flash floods in store Friday

The National Weather Service in Memphis is calling for more heavy rains Friday, with the possibility of flash flooding in low-lying parts of the Mid-South. 

NWS estimated that early morning storms brought an excess of 11 inches of rain in southeast Shelby County.

Creek beds around Shelby County are expected to rise following additional heavy rains.

NWS reports that the Nonconnah Creek near Winchester Road has reached an elevation of 27.5 feet, breaking a 44-year-old record.

The Wolf River Creek in Raleigh is at the top end of the minor flood stage with an elevation of 10.7 feet.

Power outages 

Memphis Light, Gas & Water is reporting more than 4,200 customers without power on Friday morning, with outage concentrations occurring in Germantown and Downtown, Memphis and some of North Memphis.
