People walk down Main Street downtown through a light sprinkle on Thursday, June 6, 2019 as rain continues to dominate the forecast in the Mid-South.

The big weather system that caused flooding in some parts of the Memphis area in recent days has moved off to the east, though rain may return to the area Saturday afternoon, said National Weather Service meteorologist Marlene Mickelson.

The agency puts the chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Memphis area at 40 percent for Saturday afternoon, she said. "It’ll be afternoon heating today that will cause the showers and thunderstorms," she said shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday.

Rain in the pre-dawn hours of Friday caused flood damage to some apartments and homes in southern Germantown and southern Collierville, as well as part of northern DeSoto County, she said.

An AutoNation car dealership at Hacks Cross Road near Nonconnah Creek experienced extensive flooding, she said.

In a news release Friday, the Shelby County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Office said three apartment complexes in Shelby County sustained flood damage, along with the car dealership and several homes in Collierville, Germantown and Memphis.

The agency was working with the City of Memphis Office of Emergency Management and American Red Cross to provide aid to people who sustained damage.

The agency was asking anyone who had sustained damage to report it via the following online link: https://tinyurl.com/ShelbyCoStormDamage

An updated flood damage assessment wasn't immediately available from the emergency management agency Saturday morning.

A light rain was falling in Midtown shortly after 10:30 a.m.
