Memphis man charged with murder after shooting unarmed robber in the back, MPD says

A man was shot and killed near ExtraSpace Storage in Hickory Hill on Wednesday, according to Memphis police.

A Memphis man is charged with first-degree murder after he allegedly shot a man in the back after he stole a chain saw from a business, according to Memphis police. 

Officers responded to a shooting call near ExtraSpace storage at 2645 Mt. Moriah Rd. The man killed, Lamorris Robinson, stole the chain saw from Mid-South Small Engines. Charles Kalb tried to stop Robinson from stealing the chain saw and shot Robinson in the back multiple times, according to an affidavit.

Surveillance video footage showed Kalb shot Robinson with a shotgun while he was fleeing the business. The shotgun recovered from the shooting had been sawed off 14 inches making it a prohibited weapon, according to an affidavit. 

No weapon was connected to Robinson.

Several witnesses at the scene identified Kalb to police as the person responsible for the shooting.
