A previous version of this story misspelled Latrice Greer's name. It has been updated with the correct spelling.

The Memphis family of a man shot and killed while fleeing a shop owner held a news conference with their attorney about the Oct. 16 shooting.

Police say Lamorris Robinson was killed by Charles Kalb, who has since been charged with murder and is being held on a $1 million bond.

Latrice Greer, the mother of Robinson's two kids, sat in a chair next to attorney Howard Manis as tears ran down her face. Several other family members stood behind Greer with their hands on her shoulder.

Manis said the family was mourning the loss of Robinson.

Manis said Robinson was released from prison two weeks before his killing. He had moved back in the home with Greer.

"The family is pleased that Kalb is charged with first-degree murder and appreciates all of the hard work, time and effort associated with an investigation performed by the Memphis Police Department," Manis said during the news conference.

Manis said the employee and owners of the small engine shop had "no right" to kill Robinson when there was no threat of harm.

"The bottom line of this case is that Mr. Robinson was shot in the back while fleeing the scene; the law is clear in the state of Tennessee," Manis said.

Officers responded to a shooting call near ExtraSpace Storage at 2645 Mt. Moriah Road, where Robinson allegedly stole a chain saw from Mid-South Small Engines.

Charles Kalb

Kalb tried to stop Robinson from stealing the chain saw and shot Robinson in the back, according to an affidavit.

Surveillance footage from the shooting shows Kalb shot Robinson with a shotgun as Robinson was fleeing from the business, according to a police affidavit. The shotgun had been sawed off.

Kalb's attorney and family deny the accounts in the police affidavits.
