OjO, a station-based scooter service, is bringing 250 seated scooters to Memphis.

Memphis will now have more scooter options for transit starting next week, and these newcomers to the scooter market feature seats.

OjO, a station-based scooter service, will drop 250 of their cherry-red, moped-adjacent scooters in various stations around Memphis, following a reveal at the former site of the Cleveland Street Flea Market Wednesday.

The OjO scooters contracted with the transit-focused nonprofit Explore Bike Share, and riders will be able to park the scooters at Explore stations.

Trey Moore, Explore's executive director, said in a statement OjO is aligned with their mission.

“They’re disciplined, thoughtful, and safety-focused like us,” said Moore.

OjO's fares are slightly more expensive than the existing fleet of standing scooters. Riders will pay $1.25 to start and $.20 per additional minute. If you want to park your OjO rental in a location other than the Explore bike stations, there will be a $5 dollar charge.

Ojo applied to operate in the city after a request fro proposals was issued by the city for additional shared mobility operators.

“When Explore Bike Share replied to our invitation for expanded shared mobility operators with the OjO product, we were pleased to see the inventive partnership," said Nicholas Oyler, City of Memphis Bikeway and Pedestrian Program Manager.

Once the OjO scooters officially hit Memphis streets, they will be available at Explore bike stations in several neighborhoods including South Memphis, Downtown, the Medical District, South City and Midtown.
