A Memphis man was sentenced to 10 years in prison without parole for raping an elderly woman in her midtown high-rise apartment, according to a release from the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.

Karis Williams, 54, was caught on surveillance video Aug. 13, 2017, knocking on the doors of Camilla Towers Apartments. When the 73-year-old woman opened her door, Williams forced his way inside, hit her in the head and then dragged her to a bedroom and raped her, according to the release.

Williams was arrested later that day outside the apartments wearing the same clothes and shoes that were seen on tape, according to the release.

Williams served prison time in Texas for an aggravated assault conviction in 1999 and returned to Memphis in 2016, according to the release.
