The preseason accolades continue to pile up for James Wiseman.

The cornerstone of Memphis' No. 1 recruiting class, Wiseman on Tuesday was named a preseason All-American by the Associated Press – the only freshman of the bunch. He joins Michigan State's Cassius Winston, Marquette's Markus Howard, Louisville's Jordan Nwora and Seton Hall's Myles Powell. Winston is the only consensus member of the team.

The 7-foot-1 Wiseman received 32 votes from the AP's 65-member panel, nine more than Florida's Kerry Blackshear, who got the sixth-most votes. Cincinnati's Jarron Cumberland received eight votes.

Wiseman was named a second-team preseason All-American by CBS Sports and landed on the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award watch list last week. In addition, he is the preseason pick by the league's coaches to be the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year.

The last Tigers named All-Americans by the AP were Derrick Rose (third team) and Chris Douglas-Roberts (first team) in 2008.

Memphis, the 14th-ranked team in the AP's preseason Top 25, will play its first exhibition game against Christian Brothers University at 7 p.m. Thursday.
