Fast food giant KFC has announced it will open three new restaurants in Cornwall.

Gary Moss, regional coach for all five KFC outlets in the Duchy told Cornwall Live said the company which opened its latest restaurant in Camborne less than a month ago, is already looking at new opportunities in the county and beyond.

He said that by 2020 the idea is to open three new restaurants in Truro, Newquay and Falmouth bringing the total of KFCs in Cornwall to eight.

He said he also has plans for more restaurants to open in Devon too. At present there are nine KFC restaurants in Devon and Cornwall with Marsh Mill and Camborne the latest to open up, creating 170 jobs between them.

Mr Moss said the plan was to boost the number of outlets to 20 over the next two years with each new KFC creating between 50 and 100 jobs each.

He said: "I want Truro to be our jewel in the crown with this new American diner look and an open kitchen so customers can see their food being prepared.

"We want to create a restaurant for casual dining which provides a nice family environment so families who may not have a huge income feel they have had a night out but one that's affordable."

Mr Moss said KFC pulled out of Newquay a while ago because it was not making the volume needed to be sustainable. But going back to the seaside resort is definitely on the cards.

He added: "We're going to try again. We feel Newquay needs some investment. We also want to improve our Falmouth restaurant and have another one in too with a drive through facility."

Mr Moss said a restaurant like the Camborne one, which has the new look design and feel that will be rolled out across the 800 KFC in Britain, represents a £3.5 million investment to the local economy with 90 jobs created.

He added: "Apprenticeships are important to us so a portion of the franchise levy is used to improve our staff with courses. We've got a 100% success rate in bringing our staff through the ranks to restaurant and area manager levels."

If the planning process goes smoothly, the new KFC restaurants could open in 2020.
