A body has been pulled from the water at Hell’s Mouth near Hayle.

A call from a member of the public was made to Devon and Cornwall Police shortly before 4.30pm on Friday afternoon (February 15), reporting that a body had been spotted at the bottom of the cliffs.

Police and a coastguard search and rescue helicopter scoured the area, north of Gwithian, but were unable to locate the body until more than two hours later.

A Devon and Cornwall Police force incident manager said the body of a female was recovered from the water by the coastguard team.

She has not yet been identified.

Speaking at 7pm, the force incident manager said: “The coastguard recovered the body of a female around 15 to 20 minutes ago.

“At this stage, the ID of that person is still unknown.”
