People are invited to a solidarity event to be held in Cornwall in the wake of the horrific terrorist attack in New Zealand.

The event has been organised by the group Cornwall Islamic Community, after a gunman shot dead 50 people in two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch on March 15.

The ferocity of the attack shocked the world and left people in New Zealand, in particular, reeling from the major terrorist incident. The gunman, a right-wing extremist, was arrested at the scene.

Now, in support to the many families affected by the tragedy, Muslims in Cornwall have organised their own solidarity event.

It will be held at 1pm on Sunday, March 24, near Truro. Food and refreshments will be available.

The group’s Hasan Kilic said: “We invite all communities to join us to send a strong message to those who try to divide us. We have confirmed guests from Jewish and Christian communities, as well as honorary guests from New Zealand.”

The event will be held at the Cornwall Islamic Community Centre on Quenchwell Road, Carnon Downs, near Truro. Call 07870 451209 or email theciacc@gmail.com for further details.
