Since at least 1782 there has been a Mayor of Truro, all of whom have experienced the pomp and circumstance of the grand mayor-making ceremony.

However, this year it will all be rather different.

Because of the Covid-19 lockdown and social distancing rules, this year’s mayor making will take place for the first ever time online.

Fellow councillors and special guests have been invited to a virtual ceremony and meeting using Zoom on Monday, May 11 at 7pm.

Distinguished guests will be able to sit in the comfort of their own homes, but suitably dressed for the occasion one would hope, to see outgoing Mayor of Truro Bob Smith pass the chain of honour to Bert Biscoe.

Despite being a city councillor of some years standing, this will be the first time that Mr Biscoe has been Mayor of Truro.

He is also a Cornwall councillor as well being a renowned poet, historian and songwriter.
