The iconic merry-go-round on Lemon Quay in Truro is set to ride again this weekend.

The 1947 children's ride was completely destroyed in an arson attack last September leaving the owners devastated.

But tomorrow (August 24), the merry-go-round will re-open at 10am with a huge celebration.

Most of the ride components have been completely rebuilt from scratch by Cornwall businesses - from the woodwork down to the hand-painted artwork that adorns the outer shell.

After the arson attack , the remains of the ride were thought to be completely unsalvagable. Phil Raymond, who owns Raymond Amusements with his wife Sue, said that the only parts they were able to reuse were the woodwork pieces for the centre pole and the frames for the waltzer cars.

Everything else has been designed and made specifically over the last eleven months to ensure that the ride looks identical to the original that first went up on Lemon Quay in 2009.

A series of additional entertainment has been arranged to celebrate the rides highly anticipated re-opening tomorrow.

"There is going to be bouncy castles, games, face painting and lots more to make it special", Mr and Mrs Raymond said.

Mr Raymond continued: "We worked from old pictures to get it exactly how it was, all the artwork is exactly the same as it was before.

"The whole thing has been reconstructed in the same manor as the original."

They are delighted to be reopening the merry-go-round after what they described as a "hard" year, Mr Raymond said: "It really is a tribute to the ability and the skills of the people in Cornwall that we are re-opening.

"In the time I have been here this morning people are constantly telling me they missed it and that it is lovely to have it back."
