One of Truro's only nightclubs has closed its doors for the final time.

The closure of Vanilla Bar on Duke Street was confirmed by the Vanilla Open Mic group on their Facebook page earlier today.

It is not known why the venue has closed, as when Cornwall Live called the venue this evening, nobody was there to pick up the phone.

The Facebook post on the performing arts group, read: "Vanilla open mic is sadly no more, due to closure of Vanilla, thanks to everyone who ever came and played or watched, had a great few years and a load of good memories.

"We might be back with more information with a new venue in the future but for as of now Vanilla open mic is over. Thank you all. Big love - RF."

Many people have taken to social media to share their shock after the news.

Steve Heller posted on Facebook: "Vanilla in Truro closed! What the hell!"

Harley Medgyesy commented: "I can literally feel my heart shattering."

Denna Mohajeran tweeted: "Why is Vanilla closing? What have I done to deserve this? VanillaTruro please don’t shut!!"

The nightclub scene has struggled since the closure of the The Loft, also known as L2 nightclub, in late 2015, and The Office is now the Truro's last-standing club.

At the time, many clubbers shared their sadness over the venue's departure from Truro's nightlife scene.

Daz Langford said: "Many a good night working on the door for many a year, met some great people over the years. Never was as good as the old loft. No other nightclub will ever beat our Monday nights."

Alanna Alan Turner said: "This makes me sad, it was, in its time a great night out. It had fantastic staff and cheap Monday nights.

"Spent my millennium night working here, so many fond memories. Got together with my now husband here, did my first jäger bomb."

More details of Vanilla's closure is expected to emerge at a later stage, so keep an eye on www.cornwalllive.com.
