Weather forecasters have predicted that snow and ice is heading to Cornwall this week.

According to The Met Office the first flurries of snow could fall across the region from Tuesday to Thursday.

The agency says we can expect 'hill snow' and 'icy patches' with temperatures looking considerably lower than last week.

On Sunday the weather is mostly sunny, although the winter freeze will make it feel colder.

Tonight weather across the county will be dry in most areas, giving patchy frost. However cloud will increase across the east later, bringing the odd spot of rain. Temperatures will also hit a minimum of three degrees.

On Monday temperatures will be cold, although occasional sunny spells can be expected along with one or two showers.

From Tuesday to Thursday the weather will be unsettled, breezy and cold.

There will be some sunshine, although it will look cloudy with showers developing at times.

Snow and icy patches will arrive overnight, although the snow will only fall on higher ground.

“Temperatures so far this month have been very mild, with some places this week seeing highs of 16 or 17 Celsius," chief meteorologist at the Met Office, Will Lang, said.

"However, from Monday of next week, temperatures will fall markedly as easterly winds bring much colder air across the country, limiting temperatures by day to between 6 and 9 Celsius.

“It’s certainly going to feel noticeably colder next week – especially in the east with the keen easterly breeze - however it won’t be out of the ordinary for the time of year.”

“Although many places will be dry, some rain showers are possible for eastern parts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, becoming more frequent by mid-week," he continued.

"Temperatures will fall close to or below freezing for many, with frosts increasingly likely through the week.”
