Floral tributes have been left by a Cornish river following the tragic death of a 19-year-old woman.

Pearl Bamford, from Bude, died in the city last Friday morning (March 15).

Her family described her as a “beautiful unique creative young woman with a great future ahead of her”.

Bouquets of flowers appeared on the river bank behind Tesco this morning (Friday, March 22), with a touching note.

The card reads: “Pearl, I never knew another human like you and the world is worse now. Love forever, Sam”.

Police were called at around 10am after a member of the public made the tragic discovery.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said enquiries into her death have been completed and police are waiting for the results of a formal post-mortem.

They added: “Her family are aware of these developments and this death is currently being treated as unexplained; this matter is not thought to be suspicious.”

Emergency services were first called to the scene behind Tesco at about 10am after a  member of the public made the tragic discovery.

A major search, which included the police and coastguard helicopters, coastguard search teams, an RNLI lifeboat and specialist police officers, was carried out throughout the day.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the teenager at the scene. She was sadly pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.

Cornwall has been left shocked and saddened by the news.

Her family issued a touching tribute to the youngster.

“Pearl was a beautiful unique creative young woman with a great future ahead of her,” they said.

“She shone brightly and her light will be sorely missed. Her family and friends are mourning the tragic and untimely loss of their wonderful cherished daughter and friend.”
