Cornwall Live reported on Wednesday (February 13) that popular burger restaurant Boo Koos in Helston is opening a second, much larger venue in Falmouth in three months’ time.

Hundreds of fans of the Mighty Boo burger then shared the story and tagged friends and fellow burger fans into the Facebook post.

Andy Busby wrote: “Can’t wait. My favourite burgers around. Love the fact they cater to vegi/vegan. The Cajun shroomies are one of the most amazing things ever. Amazing food and brilliant staff.

“I've never had anything there that's been anything less than amazing!!”

The American-style diner has proved hugely popular with food fans but has grown too popular for the relatively small premises on Helston’s Meneage Street.

David Lemon, who runs the business with Texan wife Lisa, said in order to appease customers who struggle to book a table, they were opening a larger restaurant with seating for 150 at the former Prezzo site on The Moor in Falmouth.

Bridgette Iball said: “Fantastic news, well done David and Lisa. So deserved. You both work really hard. I am sure it will be a massive success.”

Sadie Vowles agreed: “Amazing food, great, friendly staff and lovely owners.”

“Never been more excited,” Bethany Jennings enthused.

Kate Ismay Baker added: “So excited but not as much as my coeliac daughter she will be able to eat a burger and chips.”

Boo Koos prides itself on its varied menu which includes gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes as well as masses of meat.

At the news Boo Koos is coming to Falmouth, Ross Lannon simply exclaimed: “Yessssssss.”

What TripAdvisor says

Boo Koos gets a 4.5 rating out of 5 on reviews site TripAdvisor with 433 excellent or very good reviews and just 17 poor or terrible critiques.

Reviews include…

“So many places that advertise burgers nowadays make them look astonishing on the photos (quite easy to do with burgers) but when you try them they’re just not very inspiring because they’re tasteless. This place has a board outside informing us that they are an award winner for burger restaurant of the year. Frankly it is deserved. The service was swift and friendly, the options were copious and the food was spot on. An independent gem if you like this sort of thing. Competitively priced too. We will be back.”

“Regular visitors. The burgers are amazing. Service is always friendly and reliable despite how busy it can be for a small place, with takeaway orders, etc. Everything's cooked to order and it's never a long wait for food. Takeaway orders are surprisingly quick. Always really tasty. Menu has a good variety for meat eaters, veggie, GF, kids etc. Good value and generous portions. Whole family love it - a firm favourite.”

“This is one of my favourite restaurants. It has a unique design aesthetic that is a cross between American, Mexican, and Cornish ... and yet somehow works really well in all regards. It has a cosy atmosphere and friendly staff but, most importantly, it has the most delicious food.

“My advice would be to go on an empty stomach. Then you can get one of their burgers or any of their vast selection of sides and really just go to town on it all. I pride myself on having a stomach that's difficult to fill up, but even I have trouble devouring the portions here. It's such good value for money and so goddamn tasty. It's the kind of delicious, guilt-inducing dirty food that you can't help but love.

“As an added bonus, they have a variety of imported drinks that you can't get anywhere else and they're super fun to try.”

“So, what can I say? It is outstanding! The staff are friendly and approachable, the food is top notch, relaxed atmosphere and last but not least, the best milkshakes I've had in Cornwall.

“I was recommended this place by a friend who had heard nothing but amazing reviews, it's always weird when a place is hyped up because you set the bar high before even walking in. Not to worry, the manager, owner and staff have this covered. Will be back for sure.”

We want a Boo Koos too

Boo Koos owner David told us it was never his intention to start a chain, but with news that a second restaurant is opening in Falmouth, people are now calling for a Boo Koos in their town.

Phil Kane said on Facebook: “Open one in Penzance, plenty of empty shops here!”

Jason Chance, who was the burger-eating cover star of our original story, said: “Damn good burgers, just a bit gutted it's not a new shop closer to Bodmin.”

Melissa Claire Julian added: Gutted they didn't change the shop they used to have across from the cinema in Redruth into a Boo Koos.”

“We need one in St Austell!!!” exclaimed Fiona Slaney with three exclamation marks, while Ciaran Cardell said: “Truro next please. Put it where Hubbox is.”

Controversial comment there. In fact, others questioned whether Boo Koos would be the best burger venue in Falmouth.

Ade Uren said: “Boo Koos doesn't even come close to the Meat Counter!”

Lee Alway added: “Second favourite. Meat counter is superior.”

Art Vanderlay, replying to the headline Cornwall’s favourite burger bar is opening a second restaurant, cheekily said: “Oh I haven’t heard anything about another Meat Counter?”

Cornwall Live readers voted Boo Koos their favourite burger restaurant last year, beating Sonder in Truro into second place and The Meat Counter into third.
